Dr. Mischler is Associate Professor of English in the Department of English, Languages, and Cultural Studies at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He received the Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater with specializations in linguistics and Teaching English as a Second Language. Areas of professional expertise include oral language, language testing and assessment, language and cognition, corpus linguistics, the history of the English language, and metaphor. Dr. Mischler previously served as Director of the Writing & Academic Resource Center and Head of the English department. He founded the Graduate Program in TESOL and currently serves as the program coordinator. He also is the current Director of the Human Research Protections Program at Northwestern State and Chair of the Professional Development Subcommittee for the American Association of Applied Linguistics. Notable contributions include teaching English in Japan; a book on historical English metaphors of anger; articles in theoretical and applied linguistics; service as a peer reviewer for several research journals; professional consultant on human subject research for The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston; and, awarded by his peers Northwestern State’s Mildred Hart Bailey Research Award for his work in linguistics.
